Mexican fans send gifts to American midfielder Graham Zusi after his goal kept their World Cup dream alive

Despite the fact that Mexican football remains in a shambles – El Tri fired coach Victor Manuel Vucetich after just two games on Thursday night – their fans are in high spirits this week after their World Cup hopes were saved by the Americans.

To recap, Mexico’s terrible Hexagonal qualifying campaign was on the verge of a crisis when El Tri lost 2-1 to Costa Rica this week, however the central American powerhouse had their hopes of reaching Brazil kept alive after USMNT staged an injury-time fightback at Panama.

Two American goals in final minutes ensure the Mexico will have one last playoff chance against New Zealand, and Graham Zusi, who scored the leveller against Costa Rica, has now become a hero to Mexican football fans.

On Thursday Zusi was showered with gifts from his new followers.

Zusi has been presented with a framed photo which depicts the Kansas City midfielder as a Saint, while the player has also received a plaque of thanks for keeping Mexico in the World Cup picture.
