The rumours have been swirling for a few days now and Mesut Ozil is beginning to look like Manchester United’s most likely marquee signing in the final days of the summer transfer window.
AS report on Monday morning that Ozil is keen on moving to Manchester United and travelled with the Real Madrid squad to Granada for the La Liga match this evening, firmly thinking about a move to Old Trafford.
On Sunday, there were suggestions United had launched a 45 million euro move for Ozil but AS claim it may be the German playmaker’s wage demands that scupper any move.
Ozil is unhappy at the Bernabeu and feels he should be earning 7 million euros a season, which Real Madrid have refused to pay in recent contract discussions.
Manchester United are also currently unwilling to stretch to this amount. The highest earner at Old Trafford is Robin van Persie on 6.5 million euros a season.
An option for Manchester United may be to offer Ozil a loyalty bonus to bump up his basic wage, should he stay at the Premier League champions for a certain amount of seasons.
Real Madrid expect Manchester United’s original offer of 45 million euros for Ozil to arrive in the coming hours, according to AS.
