Matías Messi defends brother Leo from Argentina critics on Twitter

Matias Messi has launched a defence of his more famous brother Leo on Twitter, in reaction to the critics the four-time Ballon D’Or has received back in his native Argentina.

Every time Messi leaves Barcelona to represent Argentina, he carries the hopes of the nation on his shoulders – not to mention the constant comparisons to Diego Maradona – and that heavy burden clearly takes its toll on Messi at times.

Despite a decent Copa America performance, helping guide Argentina to the final with some brilliant assists (particularly in the semi-final when he was involved in all six goals), all Messi’s good work was apparently forgotten when they failed to beat Chile in the final.

The Barcelona man came in for stinging criticism from fans and the press alike, with the likes of Ole editor calling for him to be stripped of the captaincy.

His brother Matias, who idolizes Leo and has a tattoo of him on his arm, jumped to his brother’s defense on Twitter this week, tweeting a couple of articles which lament the criticism of Argentina’s star player.

Matias labelled those who criticize his brother so harshly as ‘mediocre’, a Spanish term for ‘loser’.
