Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: ‘We don’t have a player like Di Maria’ [Mail on Sunday Interview]

With reports from Marca today claiming Manchester United are preparing a €70m bid for Angel Di Maria, Louis van Gaal’s exclusive interview with the Mail on Sunday makes for interesting reading.

The Mail quote the Man United boss lamenting the top-heavy profile of his team, which has a surfeit of certain types of players, and not enough of others, which is dictating the way he has to line his team out:

Every trainer and coach and manager wants a different style of play and different tactics.

Now we have five No 9s and four No 10s and we don’t have wingers to play attacking width, not at the highest level, of Ronaldo or Di Maria or something like that.

So I have to play also in another way and you have seen that.

‘It’s a strategy of Manchester United to buy players who are on the way up and getting better, but I only buy when I think we need to.’

If the bid story is to be believed, then Van Gaal is about to granted his wish.

As for Ronaldo…
