The Daily Star, who have a poor track record in reporting on transfer stories that actually come to fruition, claim in their Tuesday tabloid that Manchester United planning to rival Arsenal for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
The Star’s Gary Jones claims that Morata is at the centre of a four-way tug-of-war between the Red Devils, Arsenal, Tottenham and Juventus.
The Star report:
Sources in Spain claim David Moyes is considering making a bid for the player this summer, while the Gunners and Juventus are also both said to be seriously interested.
Real are understood to be desperate to keep hold of the 21-year-old but have been left with limited choices because of his contract, which is due to expire in 2015.
The move in the market for a striker could also hail the departure of Javier Hernandez who has found himself on the fringes of the United squad.
Spurs have also been linked with Morata’s signature.
Of course reports linking 21-year-old Morata with a move to the Premier League are not new.At the start of the December 2013, Spanish TV show Punto Pelota claimed that Spurs are in prime position to sign the Real Madrid striker on loan, while on December 3rd Arsene Wenger answered a question on the whether the Gunners had made moves for the Spaniard, saying: “There is no truth in that. That is all I can say. I have not been in touch with them.”So is Morata coming to England?
Expect to read plenty more news reports before any concrete decision is made by the youngster this summer.
