Are Manchester United going to buy Sporting Lisbon’s superb defensive midfielder William Carvalho?

21-year-old Carvalho is one of the hottest stars in Portugal, as the new Patrick Vieira has completed a fantastic first half of the season with current Liga Sagres leaders Sporting Lisbon.

A Bola, in an article titled “Lions awaken European greed”, reported:

The match held at the Estádio Cidade de Barcelos had the presence of scouts from around the world, including Manchester United, Inter Milan and Zenit St. Petersburg in addition to Everton and Anderlecht.

Representatives from St Pauli, Celta Vigo, Celtic and Hoffenheim were also at the game. Fredy Montero is one of the names on the scouts lists of high, along with William Carvalho and Rui Patricio.

Whether Manchester United can land William Carvalho remains questionable however because of the youngster’s complicated ownership structure. Sporting only own 60% of Carvalho, while another company, BES, own 40%.

While Man United would have to overcome the obstacles of Carvalho’s ownership, then there is also the fee involved in the transfer. Carvalho is under contract at Sporting until 2018, and has a massive €45m buyout clause.
