Man United planning £10m move for Nigel de Jong [Star & Express]

As we have mentioned for months now, Manchester United have been heavily linked with pretty much every player in the Holland squad since Louis van Gaal took over as manager at Old Trafford.

Earlier today, reports in Italy suggested Stefan de Vrij is close to moving to Manchester United.

The likes of Daley Blind and Arjen Robben have also been connected to the Premier League giants in recent weeks.

On Sunday, both the Star Sunday and Sunday Express link Nigel De Jong with a move to Old Trafford.

De Jong has had a terrific World Cup at the base of Holland’s midfield, harrying and scurrying the opposition to excellent effect.

The 29-year-old has done well at AC Milan since leaving Manchester City and the Rossoneri would be likely to sell should they receive a good offer.

Whether de Jong is a significant upgrade on Michael Carrick would be interesting to see, but whilst both are defensive midfielders, perhaps United could do with a hard man in the middle of the park.
