Everton are in action tonight at Goodison Park when they welcome Newcastle to Merseyside.
One can predict that plenty of attention will again be on Everton defender John Stones after the England youngster has come in for criticism over the past month or so.
Whilst many believe Stones is a true talent who can become of the top ball-playing defenders in world football, he’s struggled with some of the basics in recent matches.
At the same time, Stones, who was the subject of bids from Chelsea last summer, continues to be linked with a move away from the Toffees.
Looking at any deal for Stones, the Times today have an interesting article which tackles the potential transfer from the viewpoint of the player.
Accordingly, readers are told that Stones enjoy living in the north of England, and he plans to stay there. The broadsheet continues:
Manchester City and Manchester United head the queue to sign John Stones, with the England defender eager to remain in the northwest if he leaves Everton this summer.
The player’s strong preference is to stay close to his predominantly Yorkshire-based family.
Chelsea, of course, are tipped to be back in for Stones at the end of the season when John Terry departs the club.
Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been linked to the Everton centre-half.
