It was very much the story of Manchester United’s season that they would lose at West Brom, having put together some fine results of late.

Before travelling to the Hawthorns on Sunday, United had put together a run of form that looked to have eased the pressure on Louis van Gaal.

Certainly, discussions about Jose Mourinho had come to an abrupt halt.

Four wins across all competitions had lead to Manchester United fans dreaming of a top four finish and perhaps a trophy or two in either the FA Cup or Europa League. Or, perhaps both.

But, Juan Mata was sent off in the first half and Manchester United never really impressed too much, eventually going down to a Salomon Rondon winner for the Baggies.

And, the Spaniard got away with much of the blame despite two avoidable yellow cards.

LVG is once again being castigated online for dropping Memphis Depay and playing the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial wide during the defeat at West Brom.

Other players to be benched after good performances included Morgan Schneiderlin, Guillermo Varela and Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

Cue much online rage from Manchester United fans… Next up for United are massive games at Liverpool in the Europa League and then home to West Ham in the FA Cup.
