Manchester United’s reserves, lead by Old Trafford legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, continued their excellent form in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North division with a narrow 1-nil win at the Riverside last night. The win now improves United’s recent record to read eight wins in their last ten matches.
Middlesbrough side packed with first-team experience, as Ross Turnbull, Justin Hoyte, Afonso Alves and Julio Arca were included in the hosts’ starting XI, but the young Red Devils stood steadfast to record the victory.
The only goal of the game arrived 13 minutes in, with a sublime free-kick from 18-year-old Norwegian winger Magnus Eikrem. With the opportunity to strike at goal from a set-play on the edge of the box, the right-footed Eikrem curled a beauty over the wall and into the top corner, his shot having too much pace for Turnbull to keep out.
