Liverpool sign striker Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo for €9m [Various Spanish sources]

The big question is whether Iago Aspas has been brought in by Brendan Rodgers to supplement star Liverpool striker Luis Suarez or to replace the Uruguayan hitman?

Various Spanish sources claim this afternoon that Liverpool have signed Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo for a fee beleived to be 9 million euros.

Marca report that Liverpool’s capture of Aspas will be formally announced next week and Celta accepted an offer of 9 million euros despite the fact his buyout clause was set at 10 million euros.

Liverpool will pay a yearly salary of 1.6 million euros for Aspas which means the 25-year-old Spanish striker comes relatively cheap for a player proven in La Liga.

After scoring 23 goals in Spain’s second division last season, Aspas has impressed in the top flight with Celta Vigo in 2012/2013, scoring 12 goals in 33 matches.

Aspas is another feisty striker heading to Liverpool and was booked five times as well as picking up one red card during this campaign.
