It has been a rather agonizing end to a magnificent season for Liverpool but despite missing out on a first league title in 24 years, fans have stuck by the players and today the players gave thanks after the final whistle blew at Anfield.
Liverpool gave a nervy performance on their way to beating nine-man Newcastle 2-1 but the fans acknowledged their efforts with a rapturous reception.
As well as doing a lap of honour, the players were accompanied by their families on the pitch.
One such player was Luis Suarez, the Uruguayan striker who endured a love/hate relationship with Liverpool fans before the season began by trying to get a move away from Anfield. Yet since then he’s appeared committed and given the best goal-scoring return of his Liverpool career, winning the golden boot with 31 goals.
He applauded the fans and showed his gratitude at their support, accompanied by his young son and daughter, as they sang his name.
