There have often been rumours in the Spanish press about Lionel Messi’s temper – they have surfaced once again after Barcelona’s 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad.
Barcelona missed a huge opportunity to close the gap on Real Madrid on Sunday. Los Blancos lost 1-0 to Valencia but the Catalans could only follow this up with their own latest defeat to David Moyes’ side.
Lionel Messi started the Sociedad game on the bench – a regular occurrence after Spain’s winter break – and was only introduced at half-time by Luis Enrique.
The fact Messi, Neymar and Gerard Pique all started the game on the bench seemed a strange decision from Luis Enrique after Real Madrid’s defeat and the subsequent loss has heaped the pressure on the Barcelona coach.
On Monday, Spanish radio station Cadena Copa have revealed that Messi is “monumentally angry” with Luis Enrique following the defeat at Sociedad.
According to Joseba Larrañaga, Messi does not believe in Luis Enrique and thinks the former Celta Vigo coach is not the man to take Barcelona forward.
Messi is also upset that the Barcelona board have backed Luis Enrique and feels the coach is the main culprit behind the stuttering form shown by the Catalans this season.
Most worrying of all for Barcelona fans, is that Messi apparently believes with Luis Enrique at the helm, the Catalan giants will NOT be able to overhaul Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.
To add fuel to these rumours, Lionel Messi did not appear at an open Barcelona training session today – according to the club he was ill.
