Riyad Mahrez has been named the 2015 Algerian player of the year after narrowly beating Porto’s Yacine Brahimi.
The announcement was made at a gala event on Sunday night.
It was another excellent weekend for Mahrez and his club side, as they beat Stoke City 3-0 to open up a three point lead ahead of Arsenal and Man City in the title race.
Mahrez won the vote by a slender advantage: he accrued 29.51% of the votes while Brahimi lost by less than one percent with 28.84%.
Sporting’s Islam Slimani came in third (17.38%), while Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam (11.56%) and Sofiane Feghouli of Valencia finished fourth (6.5%) and fifth respectively.
