Ligue 1 champions PSG are preparing to play Benfica in Toronto on Saturday.
Ahead of the encounter with the Portuguese champions, PSG coach Laurent Blanc spoke to the press and gave a pretty forthright answer to suggestions the Parisians want to sign Angel Di Maria from Manchester United.
Over the last week, reports have been rife, specifically in Paris, that PSG are favourites to sign Di Maria and that the Argentine has even agreed personal terms.
In Canada, Blanc did little to play down the Di Maria to PSG rumours, saying: “If this player left England, you can think that other big teams would be interested, Paris Saint-Germain is one of them. It’s going to be a tough game, provided that the player leaves. We are following this case with great interest.”
In terms of transfer stories, this is as about as emphatic as you can possibly get. And, shows the strength of PSG now that Financial Fair Play rules have been relaxed by UEFA.
PSG tried to sign Di Maria last summer but were curtailed by UEFA, this year it looks like they will get their man, despite interest from Bayern Munich.
Di Maria is currently recovering from an injury picked up in the Copa America final. Whilst most Manchester United fans seem keen for the “Noodle” to stay, it seems questionable whether the player himself or Louis van Gaal are overly keen.
