Amid the usual transfer reports about summer war chests, the Guardian have published a story about Arsenal’s hunt for a new left-back and what it means for the future of Kieran Gibbs.
Gibbs has only made three Premier League starts this season and he’s behind Nacho Monreal in the pecking order. Arsene Wenger is fond of the academy product and thinks he’s a good understudy but Gibbs wants playing time.
If he’s desperate to get on the pitch then he’ll have to leave Arsenal because they’re looking to bring in a player who would push Gibbs down to third in the pecking order for that left-back slot.
Lorient defender Raphael Guerreiro has been the subject of a good few Arsenal scouting missions since he impressed for Portugal at the U21 European Championships last summer. He’s fast and loves to get forward.
Arsenal have purchased both Laurent Koscielny and Joel Campbell from Lorient in recent years.
