In the most disappointing news of the day, Kevin Strootman took to Instagram to confirm that his injury hell will continue for the next few months.

A Dutch international, the AS Roma midfielder told fans that he was due to have surgery on Tuesday morning in order to correct a long-standing problem with his anterior cruciate ligament.

His damaged left knee was preventing him from wholeheartedly entering rehabilitation for the coming season. He knew that more surgery was required. He told all to his Instagram followers.

“There has been a lot of speculation in the media about my rehabilitation,” he wrote. “Unfortunately due to a lack of power in my left leg I cannot compete at the highest level right now. The last few weeks we have consulted many top professors all over the world and they and the medical staff of AS Roma have advised me to reconstruct the existing acl into another position in order for me to have less problems with my knee in the future and to regain my power again.

“I will undergo surgery this morning. I am hugely disappointed that I cannot contribute to AS Roma and the Dutch National Team for the next few months but I will do everything to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

A player who was very much in demand across Europe before his injury troubles, Strootman is a powerful box-to-box midfielder who is a huge loss for both Roma and Holland.

Only 25 years old, he should be bossing Serie A games on a weekly basis but he’s missed 55 club games over the last two years as well as a World Cup that he played an integral part in qualifying for.

We hope his operation goes smoothly and that his injury troubles are put behind him soon.
