Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema graces the cover of French daily L’Equipe today for all the wrong reasons.
According to the leading Gallic broadsheet, it’s now been decided that Benzema will be officially banned from the French national team.
What happened to innocent until proven guilty?
L’Equipe understand that Noël Le Graet (pictured above), president of the French Football Federation, will make the Benzema announcement later today in a press conference.
Benzema, of course, has been indicted in the Mathieu Valbuena sextape blackmail affair, and the French national team have now decided to leave the striker out of their team until the legal matter is resolved.
With barely over six months to go until France host Euro 2016, the decision is sure to provoke many people into wondering whether Benzema will be forced out of next summer’s competition too.
It’s also worth noting that France’s next scheduled match is against Holland in March. So why have the French FA decided to make this decision today? Isn’t it a bit premature?
