We can only presume that Juan Mata’s blog will be one long apology on Monday.
Mata, arguably one of the most mild mannered, nicest footballers in the Premier League, today picked up his marching orders at the Hawthorns in the first half.
The sequence of events were staggering, as the Spanish international collected two bookings in two minutes against the Baggies.
The first yellow came in the 24th minute, in the stupidest of circumstances, as Mata was booked for stopping West Brom from taking a free-kick from about four yards away. There can rarely have been a more pointless yellow card.
Two minutes later Mata’s moment of madness was complete, as he needlessly took out Darren Fletcher in midfield.
The dismissal was not only Mata’s first since arriving in the Premier League.
It was his first red card ever in club football!
Mata will now serve a one match suspension for Man United’s game with West Ham.
