Journeyman English footballer Seth Burkett writes book on his year playing in Brazil

In 2009, Stamford AFC left-back Seth Burkett was given the chance to go on a club tour in South America where the culmination of a life-long dream would take place.

Despite not being able to compete in the tour due to his age, he was offered the opportunity to train with Vitoria, who at the time were in the Brazilian top flight, after impressing in training.

Another silky performance in a friendly led to him turning out for Sorriso Esporte Clube where he got to fully experience Brazilian culture.

Of course, this wasn’t all perfect as the accommodation was squalid and the searing Brazilian made competitive matches an exhausting task – something England’s footballers should keep in mind this June!

Unfortunately for Seth, he wasn’t offered a permanent contract and ended up heading home. But he now represents the England futsal team and his Brazil memoirs have just recently been published.

You can watch an interview with the Samba sensation in the video above.

‘The Boy in Brazil: Living, loving and learning in the land of football’ is available on Amazon and can be purchased in bookstores nationwide.
