Inter Milan win the Italian Super Cup on penalties

Inter Milan 2* – Roma 2 (Pens. 6-5) (Italian Super Cup, August 24, 2008) Sulley Muntari put Inter in front after a swift move saw Mexes hit his own bar. Daniele De Rossi equalised just before the hour mark with a howitzer of a strike from long distance. With seven minutes remaining Mario Balotelli nipped in and looked to have won the match for Jose Mourinho’s side but Mirko Vucinic equalised in the dying seconds of normal time. After Stankovic and Totti had missed for either side in the shoot-out, Jean saw his penalty saved and it was left to Javier Zanetti to win the game. Sporting Gijon 2 – AC Milan 0 (Friendly, August 24, 2008) Barral opened the scoring 24 minutes in with a header before Bilic fired in a free-kick fifteen minutes from time to delight the home support.

Genoa 3 – Mantova 1 (Coppa Italia, August 24, 2008) A first half double from Olivera put Genoa in control. Milanetto added a third before Passoni netted a consolation.
