Inter Milan have released a statement confirming that they have terminated the contract of Nemanja Vidic.
The Serbian defender’s career has gone downhill fast since joining the Nerazurri in 2014.
Although the announcement says that the termination is mutual, it is believed that Inter have been wanting to get Vidic off their payroll for some time. The Serbian’s time in Italy has been blighted by injury.
He hasn’t made an appearance for the club and at the age of 34 his future in top level football looks far from certain. This will undoubtedly sadden fans of Manchester United, the club where Vidic became a legend.
Inter’s official statement can be seen below.
FC Internazionale announces that it has reached an agreement of mutual termination of the contract of Nemanja Vidic. The Serbian defender, at Inter since July 2014, has racked up 28 appearances for Inter and one goal last season. Vidic wanted to greet the fans and the club through inter.it: “I thank all the Nerazzurri family and fans. The club wish you great success for the future. Always Forza Inter!”
Vidic made 28 appearances for Inter last season after agreeing to join the club from United in January 2014. He made 300 appearances for the Red Devils, winning ten trophies during his eight year spell at Old Trafford.
