Santi Cazorla was not the only Arsenal new boy to impress during the 4-0 win over Cologne on Sunday.
Two goals from Lukas Podolski suggested the German striker could well fill in for some of the goal threat of Robin van Persie should the Dutch striker make a move to Manchester United.
Podolski, back at his former club, in a friendly that was part of the deal agreed by Arsenal, started the match in a left forward position, playing off Olivier Giroud.
It seems likely the Polish-born striker will fight Gervinho for the left forward position in the season to come and if Podolski can add goals from this position, Arsenal should be able to fill the gap left by van Persie.
A brace against Cologne should set up Podolski for the season to come and a 69-minute appearance suggests he will start against Sunderland in Arsenal’s opener next week.
