Individual Highlights: Demba Ba scores two on his Chelsea FA Cup debut at Southampton

Demba Ba’s debut could barely have gone much better.

Following his reported £7.5 million transfer to Stamford Bridge last week from Newcastle, Demba Ba was immediately thrown into the Chelsea attack on Saturday for their tricky-looking away match at Southampton in the FA Cup 3rd round.

Chelsea destroyed the Saints.

After going behind early on on the south coast, the Blues quickly turned on the magic to claim a significant looking 5-1 away win in the cup. Moreover, new signing Ba took most of the plaudits scoring a brace on his first Pensioners’ appearance.

Whilst it took Ba a few touches to get in the groove, after a quick settling in period the striker quickly found his touch in a blue shirt. Noticeably Ba was effective at both ends of the pitch: the attacker was an asset in the Chelsea box when defending corners, while the centre-forward bagged two at St Mary’s.

Ba was denied a hat-trick by fine Boruc save and then by Frank Lampard taking the late penalty, however two goals in one game was a healthy start to life at Cobham.
