The BBC have published an interesting article on Wednesday wondering how the 2014-15 Spanish league table would look if only goals from Spanish players counted.
The result of the thought experiment found that Real Madrid, who finished the La Liga season as runners-up, would have been relegated to the Segunda Division.
After taking out the goals from the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale, Real Madrid would have ended 2014-15 in 18th place in the league.
89 of Real Madrid’s 118 league goals in 2014-15 were scored by non-Spanish players.
At the other end of the table, Athletic Bilbao would have been crowned champions with 70 points from 38 games.
The rest of the top four spots would have gone to Valencia, Sevilla and FC Barcelona, while Malaga and Atletico Madrid would have finished the year in the Europa League places.
