Young Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel suffered a terrible injury at Swindon on Tuesday night which may have brought the curtain down on his season.
The Chelsea midfielder was getting a rare run out for Jose Mourinho’s team in the Capital One Cup, but the 20-year-old last just ten minutes of the match after suffering a painful twist in an early challenge with Town midfielder Alex Pritchard.
Despite briefly trying to carry on, van Ginkel soon hobbled off in pain, and the prognosis isn’t very good.
Chelsea’s assistant coach Steve Holland said:
We’ve got an injury to Marco which, it’s a little bit too early to be certain but it doesn’t look good. He’ll have a scan on Wednesday on an injury to his knee. It’s too early to say (if it’s a bad one) but let’s hope that’s not the case. It didn’t look good as he came off so early in the game. We’ll have to see the results of the scan, we’ll know more on Wednesday.
