“It was a faultless hat-trick.” – Nurnberg captain Raphael Schafer.
Scoring a hat-trick is always a special fete, but Nurnberg midfielder Markus Feulner raised the bar last weekend with three incredible goals against Arminia Bielefeld.
Having recently signed from Borussia Dortmund in search of first team football, Feulner made the perfect start to life at his new surroundings by scoring his three-goal haul in a whirlwind 14-minute spell in the first half.
Tim Jerat had given Arminia an early lead before Feulner struck in the 26th minute. Picking up a slide-pass just outside the Bielefeld box on the right hand side, the 29-year-old released a low tomahawk of a shot that dipped unstoppably into the far bottom corner of the net.
Nine minutes later Feulner was at it again. This time the number 7 showed off his dead-ball skills with a tremendous free-kick that arched past the Arminia keeper’s outstretched hand.
In the 40th minute Feulner completed his hat-trick with a third right-footed bullet. Picking up possession in almost an identical position to his first, Feulner this time opted to rattle a shot into the near post instead. His golazo was made to look that much better as it ripped into the net a millimeter from the underside of the bar.
