There is so much football being played in Brazil (even during the current “pre-season”) that crazy incidents seem quite a regular occurrence.
Sport posted an incredible 2-1 victory over Vitoria-PE in the Campeonato Pernambucano Championship with goalkeeper Saulo claiming the match winner in second half injury time.
The big number one connected with an inswinging free-kick to win the match and then in his celebration tore ligaments in his right knee.
Saulo’s team mates mobbed the keeper whilst on the ground and initial reports suggested a 10 day absence only for it to be significantly lengthened to 6 months.
The hero-turned-injury victim said afterwards: “Yesterday (Monday) I was so happy, today (Tuesday) I’m so sad. But I’ll recover.”
