Belgium news outlet Nieuwsblad has reported a staggering story showing how Germans have no sense of humour.
Well, perhaps not all Germans, but at least the ones in charge of security at Wolfsburg’s Volkswagen Arena.
The Bundesliga outfit last night booked their place in the quarterfinals of the Champions League after a 1-0 win over Gent. That complete a 4-2 aggregate win for Dieter Hecking’s side.
Away from the action on the pitch, one Gent fan got into trouble in the stands.
According to the report, the fan was ejected from the stadium, not because of violence or unruly behaviour, but because of a banner. The banner read “We do not tamper with software”, in reference to Volkswagen’s emissions scandal.
VW has been plunged into its deepest-ever crisis after acknowledging that it had installed emissions-cheating software into 11 million diesel engines worldwide.
Because of that banner, the Gent fan was kicked out the ground by security.
What happened to freedom of speech?
