Danny Murphy isn’t getting much love for his commentary work on the Manchester United v Arsenal match tonight but he’s not welcome back in the studio either.
Fans grumble on Twitter about the former Liverpool midfielder in the same manner that they do about another ex-Red Michael Owen and Robbie Savage.
Although fans will struggle to relate to the lives of footballers – and vice versa – they groan in unison when they hear Murphy’s voice emanating from their screens.
This has been proven by a Four Four Two poll that asked professionals who their favourite pundit was – a poll that Gary Neville won by a landslide.
The United legend has made the transition to punditry look simple by showing himself to be a likable and insightful television personality.
His unlikely partner-in-crime Jamie Carragher also features highly in the poll, finishing in second place.
But his 15% comes nowhere near the whopping 70% that Neville picks up.
