Gary Neville jokes with Liverpool fans that they will finish 4th but Man United will win the Champions League…

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville had an interesting morning at Euston Station according to his Twitter feed.

The former Manchester United full back, told his 1.76 million followers on Thursday that he had bumped into some Liverpool fans, presumably on their way back from last night’s thrilling 3-2 win at Fulham.

Neville joked that despite Liverpool commanding an 11 point gap over Manchester United, the Merseyside giants will still miss out on Champions League football.

Gary Neville then hosted on his timeline a mini-debate over whether a fifth placed team or lower in the Premier League can knock out one of the top four from the Champions League, by winning the competition this season.

This would appear that it is the final season whereby the winner can knock out one of the clubs that made it into the Champions League through the top four.

Intriguingly, despite the protestations of David Moyes, Gary Neville seems to realise that Manchester United will not be making the top four this season.

To back this opinion up, Opta produced the following stat today: 11 – No team has ever been 11 points off 4th place & finished in the top 4 since 4th place qualified for the Champions League. Adrift.
