With suggestions today that Manchester United have failed in their bid to sign Brazil wonderkid Lucas Moura, a much more credible rumour has popped up regarding Sir Alex Ferguson’s transfer plans.
Whilst Manchester United’s reported transfer targets Lucas Moura and Robin van Persie would add a big of glitz and glammer to Old Trafford, Ferguson often signs younger, more unknown players, for cheap.
Hence, the rumour emanating from Argentina, that Manchester United are interested in River Plate’s 20-year-old midfielder Ezequiel Cirigliano for around 5 million euros.
The 5.8ft central midfielder is the sort of player United have been crying out for for some time. Cirigliano will sit in midfield, break up the play and use the ball wisely.
Michael Carrick, Paul Scholes and Anderson look to be United’s main central midfielders in 2012/2013 and amid all the big-name transfer talk, fans of the Red Devils have been wondering who will control games in the middle of the park.
Cirigliano has represented Argentina at Under-17 and Under-20 levels but came to the fore with River Plate as they battled back from their surprise relegation to the second division.
It would be a surprise to see Cirigliano leave River Plate before they play in Argentina’s top division but with big-spenders Manchester City and PSG linked, he could be a better fit for Manchester United at the current time.
The first video below is a compilation of Ezequiel Cirigliano’s best work at River Plate. After that is what appears to be his only professional goal – for Argentina Under-20s against North Korea in August 2011.
