Ex-Spurs boss Tim Sherwood: ‘Andros Townsend single-handedly qualified England for World Cup’ [Vine]

Tim Sherwood is a studio guest for tonight’s Europa League game between his old side Spurs and Besiktas.

Sherwood was Tottenham manager last season, and was relieved of his duties in the summer as Levy brought in Mauricio Pochettino.

In the meantime, he hasn’t lost any of his entertaining shtick, with a pretty outlandish comment while praising Andros Townsend.

Townsend’s return to the England fold has been met with a mixed reaction, but Sherwood’s not having that:

‘He pretty much single-handedly qualified the nation for the World Cup, with those 2 goals.’

Sherwood was surely referring to the crucial qualifier against Montenegro, which they won 4-1, and in which Townsend had a blinding game.

But he only scored one goal, and he wasn’t Lionel Messi that night either.
