Everton boss Roberto Martinez has made an approach to sign out-of-favour Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto, according to the Mirror.
Martinez is desperate to bolster his squad and was believed to have initial inquiries in January, as did Stoke City boss Mark Hughes.
There is a surprisingly large group of Barcelona alumni gathering at Stoke so that could tempt Roberto to join the Potters. Another reason would be their stability.
Roberto won’t want to join Everton if they drop down to the Championship and they’re hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.
They lie 11 points behind Stoke in the Premier League table.
Barcelona have told Roberto that he can leave in the summer as he doesn’t seem to be an integral part of their planning for the future.
This is a far cry from last September when he was rewarded with a fiver year contract which included a release clause of €40 million.
The 23-year-old has made only 12 appearances in all competitions this season.
