Early contender for save of the season: Ali Al Habsi’s brilliant reaction to deflected Charlie Adam free-kick (Wigan 2 – Stoke 2)

“Ali had to show a tremendous level and we had our chances – I take it as a point gained. Ali keeps producing this level. Since he arrived at the DW Stadium he has become a bit of a hero and that is why – because when you really need him, he is always there.” – Wigan manager Roberto Martinez.

“I thought we had the better clear-cut chances and the save from the goalkeeper was a fantastic save, unbelievable.” – Stoke boss Tony Pulis.

Ali Al Habsi must be one of the most underrated keepers in the Premier League and also in world football.

Probably Wigan’s best player in 2011/2012, the Omani custodian looks like continuing in the same vein this campaign.

Perhaps not at his best against Chelsea on the opening day, Al Habsi produced a trademark wonder performance at Southampton and then denied Stoke and new boy Charlie Adam the win on Saturday.

The save on the video below is quite simply incredible.
