DONE DEAL! Man City complete the £12m signing of midfielder Fernando from FC Porto

Manchester City have announced on Thursday that they have completed the signing of midfielder Fernando from FC Porto.

The reigning champions could now be heading into the start of next season with a central midfield partnership Fernando and Fernandinho. That should be interesting for the commentators.

The announcement from Man City comes a day after Porto confirmed the deal had been done for €15 million, around £12 million.

Fernando told City’s website:

I am so happy finally to be joining. I know there was talk of me possibly signing last January so I am delighted that the deal has now been done and that I am a City player.

The 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder is City’s second summer signing after Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna joined on a free transfer before the World Cup.

Whether the arrival of Fernando signals the departure of Yaya Toure from the Etihad remains to be seen.

Rather than an attacking midfielder, Fernando ball-nicking defensively minded player, who will help shield City’s backline in the middle of the pitch.
