“The goal came out well. Nobody expected me to do that, I found a very nice goal and helped win the game. I’ve been with Joel [Rayo Vallecano keeper] and he said he could not see the ball because there were many people in the middle of the play and it came out with great force. He congratulated me for it.” – Cristiano Ronaldo.
“There are different types of leadership. When things get complicated, Messi takes a step forward. Throughout these past four years, this player has always done that.” – Pep Guardiola.
Once again Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi proved their quality when it matters most with two stunning goals for Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively on Sunday.
Ronaldo ensured Real Madrid remain 10 points in front of Barcelona with a ridiculous back heel to secure a 1-0 win at Rayo Vallecano.
Whilst later on Sunday evening, just as it looked like Pep Guardiola’s side would have to settle for a draw at Atletico Madrid, Lionel Messi produced a wonder free-kick to ensure victory.
For comparison, both their league records in 2011/2012 are a little silly. Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 29 goals in 24 La Liga matches whilst “The Flea” has 28 goals in 24 matches.
Incredibly, without Ronaldo and Messi, Real Madrid and Barcelona would respectively have nine points less this season.
