But the MLS side then fell twice apart at the back themselves, allowing Alpizar and Elizondo to put the hosts ahead in the final stages. But just as it seemed that United had thrown away the match they hit back in injury time, Dyachenko bundled home a 92nd minute equaliser from a corner.

LA Firpo 1 – U.N.A.M. (Pumas) 1 (CONCACAF Champions League, October 9, 2008) Firpo grabbed the lead through Mauricio Quintanilla’s header from a corner kick, while Pumas hit back with Martin Bravo’s second half strike.

Municipal 2 – Tauro 2 (CONCACAF Champions League, October 8, 2008) Municipal opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Juan Plata volleyed home with his left foot. Tauro hit back in the second half, Luis Fernando Esobar finding the back of the net after a stunning solo effort in the 58th minute before Edwin Aguilar headed the Panama club into the lead. But Mario Acevedo headed home an injury time corner to grab a draw for Municipal.

The gamed in stalemate when Yasuhito Endo converted a penalty in the 81st minute after Takahito Soma brought down Ryuji Bando in the box.


Real Salt Lake 1 – New York Red Bulls 1 (MLS, October 9, 2008) David van den Bergh scored his seventh goal of the season just after the half hour mark to send the Red Bulls ahead, firing home from outside the box after a corner had only been partially cleared. But the Red Bulls, who haven’t won in three matches, failed to hold onto their lead, Jamison Olave converting from a corner just before half time. The game was marred in the final stages when Juan Pietravallo saw red for cutting open Clint Mathis with a high boot.
