Colombian striker banned after admitting he dived to win a penalty

Unlike Robbie Fowler in his heyday, the admission from Millonarios forward Carmelo Valencia only arrived after the match had been concluded.

Playing away at Santa Fe last Sunday night, Millonarios fell behind moments after the restart. But after finding himself one-on-one with home keeper Agustin Julio minutes later, forward Valencia opted to take a tumble in the box which not only won his side a penalty (from which they equalised) but also saw poor Julio sent off.

Whether due to a guilty conscience or because he was simply boasting, in his post match press conference Valencia came clean about taking a dive in the box. As a result the forward has managed to talk himself into a domestic suspension for his behaviour, with Julio’s red-card having been overturned.

Staying in the Colombian league, as a bonus we have a brilliant goal which you wont have seen from last night’s league meeting between Cucuta and Santa Fe.

The visitors took the lead just before the hour mark with a stunning 35-yard dipper from Julio Gutierrez, that arched its way into the top corner for a stunning opener.
