Christopher Samba has been charged by the Russian FA for reacting to racist abuse.
The former Blackburn defender is now at Dynamo Moscow and the incident occurred against rivals Torpedo Moscow, who targeted Samba with racist abuse throughout a heated first half.
Samba didn’t go back out in the second half after requesting to be taken off.
Torpedo Moscow had sections of their Saturn Stadium partially close as punishment but the Congolese victim has also been charged for making an ‘unpleasant gesture’ in response to the racist abuse.
Russian fans have said in the past that they racially abuse players not because they’re racist but to provoke a reaction. As if a football stadium is a no-holds-barred zone. Nonsense, of course, but for Samba to be charged only perpetuates this ridiculous notion that it’s acceptable to use offensive language to ‘wind up’ players. Absolutely farcical.
