As the clock ticks down on the final minutes of the summer transfer window, Sky Sports have revealed that Chelsea have failed with two bids for Brazilian defender Marquinhos.
At just 21, Marquinhos is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in world football and has impressed for Paris Saint Germain since joining from Roma.
Chelsea have been looking to supplement their creaking back line which has started the new Premier League season in such poor fashion.
Everton defender John Stones has been the subject of plenty speculation but the Merseyside team would not budge when Chelsea did make offers.
On transfer deadline day, Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Papy Djilobodji from Nantes and have been heavily linked with a move for Reading defender Michael Hector.
Considering how wealthy PSG are and as the Ligue 1 champions prepare for a tilt at the Champions League, it would have been a huge surprise were they to sell one of their best young talents, especially as they cannot sign anyone themselves today.
See how Chelsea fans reacted to the two failed bids for Marquinhos below.

Make a 3rd bid for Marquinhos! Bid 50M for him.. Make it happen in 2 hours!

Still pathetic though. Players like Marquinhos are supposed to be monitored since the beginning of the window

We sold David Luiz to them for £50M, surely they won't sell Marquinhos for cheap

If you rearrange "Marquinhos" you can spell "saq Mourinho". Coincidence? I think not.

Bidding for marquinhos now are we? Too late. We have "Papy" power!

No Stones no Marquinhos this isn't happening, this is all just a bad dream.

In the first place Marquinhos should have been out primary target and not Stones. Probably would have had him by now

Marquinhos would be a good signing actually, good RB cover when we REALLY NEED IT and future first team CB
