Chelsea expect to land Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone as their new boss [El Confidencial]

It’s a big day of exclusives for Spanish daily El Confidencial.

The paper has claimed to have inside knowledge of Jose Mourinho’s impending employment contract with Man United, while they also seem to have the inside scoop on Chelsea’s plans to appoint a manager in the summer.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is apparently the wanted man at Stamford Bridge, and the Argentine has been targeted  by the Blues even before the Special One walked out the door.

Roman Abramovich is said to have wanted Simeone for some time: El Confidencial says Cholo’s name has placed in the owner’s “top draw” for a while.

The Argentine’s qualifications for the Chelsea job are also sized up.

Apparently Simeone’s English is good enough to begin with as he’s taking English lessons, while it’s also revealed that while the coach is under contract until with Atleti, the manager has an agreement with the Spanish club to sit down with them at the end of every season to determine how they will (or won’t) move forward.

That means he’s generally available to move to London this summer.

Finally, it’s reported that Simeone earns 6 million euros a season.
