Brutal Commentary: George Hamilton (RTE) slams the “stupid decision” to have Nani take Man United’s penalty v Galatasaray

Fans all over the planet regularly complain about stale state of soccer commentary, however few Irish fans could subscribe to that narrative during Manchester United’s 1-nil win over Galatasaray in the Champions League.

Early in the second half the Red Devils had the chance to double their advantage when Luis Nani was presented with a penalty. As we now all know Nani blew the chance royally as his stuttering run-up lead to Fernando Muslera’s fine spot-kick save.

Irish viewers were prepared for Nani’s impending penalty fail during George Hamilton’s amazingly negative commentary during the incident.

Hamilton sounded almost aghast as Nani was handed the responsibility from 12-yards, as the commentator noted:

Nani’s shooting in recent days has been rather less than accurate. He wasn’t very good against Wigan at the weekend. He had one [shot] which was way off target tonight…. It’s a short run-up…. [insert the miss] Never looked likely! And it was a stupid decision to give it to him in the first place!

For the record, Manchester United have now missed three penalties this season. Robin van Persie missed at Southampton, while Javier Hernandez missed another spot-kick against Wigan last weekend.
