Boca Juniors U17 player attacks ref, whole team rages at Future Champions tournament

Violence in South American football is not such a rare occurrence, but even by these standards, the scenes on the video below are pretty incredible considering they occurred at one of the most high-profile youth tournaments in world football.

Boca Juniors, along with Manchester United, have been taking part in the Future Champions U17 tournament in Brazil over the past week.

The Argentinians took on Atletico-MG on Wednesday to decide who would progress to the semi-finals with a 1-1 draw in the end enough for the Brazilians and in turn eliminating Boca.

To say that one of the Boca players took elimination badly would be an understatement. Named Facundo, the number two raged at the referee who had earlier sent off two of his team mates.

After screaming abuse in the ref’s face, Facundo is sent off after the final whistle but decides to dig an even deeper hole for himself by pushing the official.

Whilst his team mates do try and calm him down, the rest of the Boca Under-17 side are in aggressive mood and riot police have to be called in. At the very end of the video below, you can also see how certain members of the team also kick balls at the Atletico-MG coaching staff.

Footage of the Boca Juniors Under-17 player attacking the ref and subsequent melee is on this video.
