As we await the confirmation that Christian Benteke has completed his move from Aston Villa to Liverpool, already analysis has begun into comparing the transfer fee for the Belgian striker, compared to the transfer fees paid for Belgium’s other top class talent.
Belgium are currently the third highest country in FIFA’s world rankings, behind World Champions Germany in second, and Argentina in first.
Het Laatste Nieuws (see below) have now revealed that the total amount of transfer fees spent on Belgium’s current squad is £380m, or €550m.
Provided the deal for Benteke for goes without any hiccups, he’ll now become the Red Devils most expensive player, as Liverpool shell out €57.9m on the 24-year-old.
In comparison, Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini is the second most expensive Belgian, after he left Everton for €54.5m.
Everton, meanwhile, splashed out a massive €48.5m on signing Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, while Chelsea ‘only’ spent €40m on signing Eden Hazard from French club Lille back in 2012.
