The injury to Javi Martinez has seriously pressed Bayern Munich into action and Pep Guardiola looks to have secured a couple of stunning signings to improve a stellar squad.
Mehdi Benatia was unveiled as a Bayern Munich player on Thursday and Bayern have also confirmed that they have reached agreement with Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso to sign the Spanish midfielder.
Rumours of a Bayern deal for Alonso only surfaced on Wednesday, the same day that the former Liverpool midfielder announced his retirement from international football.
The Tweet below from Bayern confirms agreement for Alonso – with a medical set for Thursday in Munich.
With Martinez out long-term and injury problems afflicting Thiago Alcantara and Bastian Schweinsteiger, this looks like a very shrewd signing from Bayern.
At 32, Xabi Alonso still has plenty of good football left in him and Bayern are effectively replacing Toni Kroos, who left for Real Madrid earlier this summer.
For Los Blancos, the likes of Luka Modric and Kroos appear to be first choice, with Sami Khedira now looking likely to stay at the Bernabeu.
Expect Alonso to be a success at Bayern. Whether Real Madrid miss him remains to be seen.
