One of the – if not the only – criticisms the Golden Boy of German football comes in for is his sometimes wayward finishing.
At just 20 Mario Gotze looks to have just about all that is required to become one of the world’s best, but his finishing does appear to let him down all too often.
At Malaga in the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals, Gotze was guilty of wasting three great chances to score an away goal for Dortmund, and he showed how much his finishing needs honing again today at Greuther Furth.
Rushing in on Robert Lewandowski’s rebounded effort, which came back off the crossbar, Gotze looked sure to score, but instead of taking it with his left foot, he chose to awkwardly sidefoot it with his right, and his effort sliced badly wide of the far post.
Not epic, but a pretty awful miss all the same!
