The summer transfer window is beginning to pick up a head of steam and Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone today threw hit hat into the ring regarding two European stars.
Behind Cesar Azpilicueta in the Stamford Bridge pecking order, Chelsea full back Filipe Luis has struggled throughout his first season in the Premier League.
Fresh from his Champions League final defeat, Carlos Tevez reportedly wants to quit Juventus and Atletico Madrid are hot on his trail too.
In an interview with AS, Diego Simeone today confirmed his interest in both of these players, admitting that talks were already underway between Atletico and Juventus over the potential signing of Carlos Tevez.
“The truth is I have not spoken with Carlos, but I know the club is speaking with his agent,” Simeone said.
“It is always exciting to have players like Tevez. He has the best thing about this game — he bleeds football, apart from the number of goals he is capable of scoring each season. He would be an ideal signing for our idea of football at Atletico Madrid.”
Filipe Luis joined Chelsea in a €20m deal last summer and the player allegedly rejected Real Madrid in recent days due to his desire to return to Atleti.
“[Filipe Luis] is a player we like a lot as a kid but who also knows us well and has given a lot to the team,” Simeone said. “I hope it happens.”
Atletico struggled to build on their La Liga winning campaign of 2013/14, eventually finishing 3rd well behind Barcelona and Real Madrid.
