Asian Champions League & CONCACAF Champions League goals

Kashima Antlers 1 – Adelaide United 1 (Asian Champions League, September 17, 2008) (Longer highlights here.) Adelaide moved ahead thanks to Travis Dodd’s 38th minute header from an inviting left wing cross, but Robert Cornthwaite scored a horrific own-goal, slicing the ball past the keeper when under no pressure whatsoever, to allow the game to end honours even.

Karama 1 – Gamba Osaka 2 (Asian Champions League, September 17, 2008) Abduldaim gave the hosts an early seventh minute lead, but second half strikes from Yamaguchi and Futagawa turned the game for Gamba.

Al-Quadsia 3 – Urawa Red Diamonds 2 (Asian Champions League, September 17, 2008) Al-Quadsia took the lead on 17 minutes, Selim Benachour’s free-kick was headed home by Al Ebrahim. Edmilson equalised for the away side a quarter of an hour later, but Benachour restored Al Quadsia’s lead ten minutes into the second half, scoring directly from a free-kick. Khalaf Al Mutairi converted a penalty kick with nine minutes to go to put the game beyond any doubt, but Urawa pressed on, Edmilson striking his second in added time to enhance their hopes of turning things around in the second leg.

Puerto Rico islanders 2 – Tauro 1 (CONCACAF Champions League, September 16, 2008) The Islanders got two early goals from Petter Villegas and Kendall Jagdeosingh, both great strikes, before Tauro pulled a goal back through Edwin Aguilar.
