Asamoah Gyan asked if he sacrificed rapper friend Castro; Journalist later attacked by Gyan’s brother

A bizarre story from Ghana has reached Europe today involving former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan.

The brother of the Ghanaian star, Baffour, has been arrested after an alleged assault by a group of thugs on a journalist.

Daniel Kenu of Ghana‘s Daily Graphic newspaper, on Wednesday asked Asamoah Gyan in his press conference about an alleged sacrifice of rapper ‘Castro’ last summer.

Kenu asked Gyan to clear up rumours of a human sacrifice involving long-time family friend Theophilus Tagoe, aka Castro the rapper. Castro drowned last summer whilst away on holiday with the Gyan family.

At a Ghana training session last week, Gyan had been approached by a group of men accusing him of ritual sacrifice.

This caused Daniel Kenu to say in the Wednesday press conference, “This will not be in a good taste…It has nothing to do with the upcoming match but I wish to appeal to Asamoah Gyan to clear the air. There is this allegation that you sacrificed Castro for whatever reason…”

Gyan was told not to answer the question, despite trying to confront the reporter.

On Friday, whilst picking up his media accreditation for the Ghana match against Uganda, Kenu was attacked by a group of thugs, including Asamoah Gyan’s brother Baffour.

Baffour, also a Ghana international, co-operated with police and wrote a caution statement after the incident.

Kenu’s paper claims: “Since last Friday’s attack. Mr Kenu had been in so much pain, particularly in the head” and speculated that the incident would have “fatal” if not for the intervention of Stephen Asante, a reporter at the Ghana News Agency.
